The Swiss Alps are a majestic region to visit, definitely requiring more than one or two days. We suggest at least a week, enabling you to not only experience the lofty peaks of the Bernese Oberland, but to also visit the surrounding areas. The quaint village of Wilderswil – 3 kilometres from Interlaken – is an ideal base from which to explore the “highs” and “lows” of this region.
From here you can ascend high into the alpine region, to vantage points such as the Schilthorn - with it’s Piz Gloria restaurant and James Bond bar – and Jungfraujoch with it’s Sphinx Observatory, Ice Palace, Husky Dog School and glacier valley. There are some spectacular rides by cog-rail and cable-car, allowing you to absorb the beauty of the Alps. You will also be able to visit Interlaken, the beautiful lakes of Brienz and Thun, as well as further afield to the capital – Bern, Chillon Castle on the banks of Lake Geneva; Lausanne with it’s Olympic Museum, Geneva and Zurich. You’ll soon find that one week is not enough to experience all that this region has to offer.
The Hotel Baeren is located in the small village of Wilderswil, just 3 kms from the centre of Interlaken in the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland. The Zurschmiede family has operated the hotel for 5 generations, and the current hosts, Fritz and Gabi Zurschmiede have a reputation of looking after their house guests. All rooms have private facilities and some rooms have a balcony. The hotel features several themed dining rooms, a pizzeria and a pub. A sauna, bio-sauna, solarium and fitness equipment are available for guests use.
